Clerical fascism or clerical fascism is an ideology that combines the political and economic doctrines of fascism with theology or religious tradition. This type of fascism is characterized by seeking to harmonize state power with religious values and doctrines, combining the state and the clergy in a single national objective and using faith as a tool of political and social legitimation. It differs from classical fascism, such as Benito Mussolini's Italian fascism or Adolf Hitler's German fascism, in its greater reliance on religion as an ideological foundation, hence the defense of traditional social values instead of the palingenesis and futurism of the original variants.
